Why is the Nikon D5000 breaking sales records?
To all the camera lovers out there, Nikon just launched its new D5000 camera an incredible 12.3 mp camera that captures photographs and also records HD movies. A remarkable fact about this model is that Nikon has never done another DSLR which is a follow up to the 1000. The simplest way to describe this entry level model is by calling it a sort of hybrid between the earlier D60 and D90 models, incorporating some of the best features of the D90 and the basic structure of the D60.
Like the D-90 it has a 12.3mp camera, 11 point AF system, HD movie recorder with the same speed of 1280 x 720, 24 fps, ISO range of 100-6400, and shutter durability of 100,000. GPS supported, it has a continuous shooting rate of 4 fps, a mere 0.5 fps less than the D90. On live view it has a wide AF, face detection and subject tracking. The dust reduction works in three stages; an airflow control system, a vibrating low pass filter and software so you can eliminate dust after having taken the picture.
What sets the Nikon D5000 camera apart is the 450 degree rotating/flip down LCD which is perfect for low and high angle shooting. The down side is the 2.7 inch screen as well as the resolution which at 230,000 pixels is a little lower than other cameras in the market. It has 19 scene modes and interval timer shooting. Another great feature is the quiet release mode that is extremely useful in locations where you want to minimize noise. The magnification/coverage is 0.78X/95% which is less than the Nikon D90s, furthermore it lacks white balancing. The Nikon D5000 only supports autofocus on AF-S and AF-I lenses and the focusing has to done manually. With a weight of 560 grams, dimensions of 5.0 x 4.1 x 3.1, it is currently available online at all good retailers.
